Defending a Defense Contractor with a Compliant Solution

By Erica Lord | Case Study, Compliance, Defense Contractor, IT Clarity, Success Story, UCaaS, Unified Communications as a Service | Comments are Closed | 27 January, 2020 | 5

Consolidating Unified Communications Tools into a Secure, Compliant, Single Pane of Glass.

Client Profile

A national privately-held consulting company with over 200 staff dedicated to solving challenging problems in national defense.

Previous State

Avaya on-premises PBX; Verizon PRI’s; numerous collaboration & messaging tools (including Microsoft Teams, Slack, GoToMeeting, WebEx, and Jira).

Key Critical Requirements

NIST alignment; seamless consolidation of collaboration, conferencing, & voice; cost efficiencies; high touch service & support to manage the user transition.

The Challenge

Like many enterprises, the client had a disjointed voice, messaging, and collaboration environment. This scenario is common in larger organizations as business units identify needs they don’t feel are being met by the organization and bypass IT to purchase a fit for their use case. The quantity of tools deployed in this situation brought financial and operational inefficiency and made supporting the end-user community very difficult. Since the tools were purchased without IT oversight and vetting, they also left the organization at risk of compliance violations.

We are seeing collaboration requirements increasingly driving new technology adoption.  ARG assisted the client in completing a survey of user requirements, collecting criteria from the various business units, and identified a steering committee that could represent those needs in the evaluation process for a new platform. ARG used this data and requirements to identify the providers who could take a holistic approach to solving their core needs and assist the client in consolidating tools and vendors into a secure, compliant, single pane of glass.

Solution

The ARG recommended solution was a great fit for this client. It provided them with the opportunity to aggregate some of the technology they were not replacing (like Jira) into the Unified Communication environment. At the same time, it allowed them to replace many of the tools where there was overlap, such as GoToMeeting and WebEx. The service provider also offers NIST alignment, which allowed them to check the security boxes that were critical for the client as they work in support of national defense.
