Sierra Wireless has confirmed that its internal IT infrastructure was subjected to a ransomware attack. No ARG clients have reported any impact. ARG continues to monitor the situation.
Sierra Wireless’s internal technology infrastructure was largely shut down this week due to a ransomware attack. Manufacturing and administrative services were halted at several locations, and its external website was also impacted (Business Wire).
Sierra Wireless is stating that the ransomware event has not compromised users of their networking or IoT services. ARG can confirm that no ARG clients have reported outages or other issues.
The company does not anticipate a need for security patches or firmware upgrades for customer deployed devices at this time.
ARG Recommendation:
ARG clients are encouraged to confirm that all connectivity to the internet is secured through commercial-grade security services. Internally deployed IoT devices should be virtually separated from other network traffic and treated as external network services.
