Lindsey and I left ARG HQ with our money in hand and some extra RAK cards. We were determined to buy gas for a few people and fill a local little free pantry. The first stop was the grocery, then we drove and filled up the pantry. Next, was the gas station where we lurked looking for a likely victim… and lurked…. and lurked… the only vehicles that came in were work trucks where the company would pay for gas. After what felt like forever we went to another gas station and it was a complete repeat- only work trucks or REALLY nice cars that didn’t look like they needed the $$. We tried the one down the street with the same result. We were headed to a 4th gas station when we drove by a Chick Fil A. Lindsey noticed two of our military service members heading in wearing their uniforms and yelled “Stop!”. I slammed on the brakes and she hopped out of the car and ran them down! They were reluctant, but eventually, she talked them into accepting money for lunch as a small token of our appreciation for their service. We delivered the last $10 to the guy in the mailroom on the loading dock so he could get a cold drink or a snack to brighten his day. We had a great time looking for opportunities to help others but next time I fill up, I’m still buying gas for someone. Thanks for making this part of our culture and providing time to intentionally focus on it!
