Saturday night my daughter and I met in Pentagon City – while I waited for her to arrive I watched a homeless man get off the train – he had just gotten out of the hospital, was on crutches and looked frazzled. After a few minutes of watching him I asked him could I get him dinner – He thanked me – I asked what did he like – he said I will take anything but I really don’t like all the junk food. My daughter arrived and I let her know that we were going to have dinner with the man – we sat in the mall food court – he ate pretty healthy – and was extremely happy about it. We talked about things in general – but we learned that he became homeless after he lost his wife to cancer – he was so focused on caring for her he lost his job and ultimately ended up w/no money or place to live. He just got out of the hospital due to diabetes.
