I needed to get some cleaning supplies, so I went to Walmart in Sterling. While we were unloading our cart, I noticed a family of four in front of us, a screaming 1-year-old and a very active but polite 3 yr old. The dad was paying & I notice he swiped one credit card, the clerk said something & he pulled out another card, then I realized he was reaching in his wallet for yet another credit card. I leaned over & said, “Excuse me, but I would like to pay for your stuff,” he, his wife & the sales clerk looked at me like I had 10 heads, I thought oh boy did I just insult them?!? So then I said it differently, “Have you heard of doing random acts of kindness? I would simply like to pay for your stuff – no strings – it is something we are doing for my work.” Again they looked at me a little funny, but then they said: “are you sure, it’s over $50?” So I leaned into the cashier & asked what the total was, he told me it was $63.63, I handed him $100 & gave the man the receipt. He & his wife just looked at me smiling & said wow you really didn’t have to do that, but THANK YOU! I responded & said would you just do something nice for someone else & keep this moving forward? They both responded with oh yea.
I think I made their night, the clerk looked at me & said lady that was really nice of you & my daughter was amazed by the whole thing too.
Thank you, ARG!
