There is an elderly gentleman that I drive by at least 3 times a week, sitting on his front porch just down the street from my house. I can see him sitting there from my front yard. Today I was headed to the farmers market and sure enough, this guy is sitting by himself on the porch. In the heat. I smiled and waved (for the first time waved) and he waved back. I figured there’s no time like the present to stop and talk to this guy, but I wanted to do something for him. I picked up two watermelons for the weekend, instead of my usual one, and hoped he’d be outside on my way back. Sure enough, a whole hour later, there he was. I pulled in front of his home, watermelon in hand, walked up and introduced myself, shook his hand and talked with him for a few minutes. The look on his face was like Christmas morning – over a watermelon. (Insert heart melting good feeling here) Moving forward, I plan on continuing to stop in on my new friend, Charles, goodies in tow.
