On my way to work, I saw a big cloud of smoke come from a car in front of me. Usually, my first thought would be how that will disrupt my day but today I thought of the driver. I watched as the car slowly made its way to the shoulder and did my best to follow from a distance. Rubbernecking came in handy as I was able to see how distraught the driver was. I put on my hazard lights and pulled in front of her car. Her radiator had blown and she didn’t know what to do. After commiserating on how car repairs are the worst, I told her a little about our RAK program, gave her $100, the number to my friend that works at a tow truck company and asked her to pay it forward. My new friend, Donna, called me her hero. I might have given her money but I’m the one who feels like a million bucks.
