On my way to the Costco in DC, I pass by a VA Referral and Resource Center each week. This location has an office for their homeless program so it’s not unusual for there to be a person or two out front or nearby. This weekend I saw something that I hadn’t seen before, a couple with a child set up on the side of the building to try and stay out of the wind. They had luggage, backpacks and rolled up sleeping bags with them. I made a few assumptions about what was going on, pulled over and gave them the remaining $100 in RAK money I had. The woman started crying and the man looked surprised and confused but shook my hand and said thank you.
This one REALLY took me out of my comfort zone, but it also might be one of the most impactful.
