We’ve been in the process of selling or giving away stuff in our house in preparation for a long distance move. One of the things we sold was a large (and heavy) armoire that holds a small TV. After posting it for sale, I received an offer from a woman several counties away. I warned her that it was on the 2nd floor of the house so I’d need a hand in getting it down. Well, the entire family showed up to get it. The father and his son insisted on moving it. They carefully navigated down the stairs which has a right angle turn half way and got it out the front door. As I was walking out behind them, a young girl who was maybe about 6 or 7 years old happily said to me “That’s for my room!”. She seemed so excited about having this furniture in her room like it was Christmas. I couldn’t help but be moved by her enthusiasm and the fact that they lifted that thing without me having to help! So when the mother handed over the cash I gave half of it back and said “Get her something nice to put in it”.
