I had to go to traffic court today for an expired registration. After debuting in my first court appearance and getting out with no charges, I was walking back to the parking garage and encountered a frazzled young mom carrying a hefty 3 year old. She put him down and he started wailing so I asked if I could help. I tried to chat up the little guy while his mom got out her credit card to pay for parking but he was not having it. She picked him back up and we continued together toward the garage.
When we got there they had a paper sign that said “Cash only – No Credit.” She didn’t have cash and started to put he little guy down to dig in her purse but luckily I had $20 in my wallet! I pulled it out and paid for her parking and mine. As I was turning to leave with my change, there was a boy translating the sign for an older woman. They looked frazzled so I paid for their parking too! Then I gave my remaining cash to the next guy in line and asked him to pass any change to the person behind him. He started to argue and I explained that it was my pleasure and that my company, ARG, funds random acts of kindness. With that he finally took the money.
Going to court for anything isn’t usually fun and I doubt everyone had as good a result as I did. It felt amazing to bring a ray of sunshine to people on this cloudy morning and wish them a wonderful weekend!
