One of my previous RAKs was to give out gift cards at a local grocery store to help offset food costs. It went very well, but I wanted to try something a bit different this year.
I went to a local farmers market on Saturday when it first opened and worked with one of the larger vendors who sell locally grown fruits and vegetables to explain ARG’s RAK program and what we were trying to accomplish. I gave them $150 and it was used to cover the first $150 of sales to people that were going to use SNAP, WIC or EBT to pay for their purchases. I stuck around to watch what happened and it was wonderful. There was a great deal of confusion that quickly led to gratitude, some tears, and a few hugs. It was very powerful to see and made for a great weekend!
